Again loving the game , but so far the chasms are my least favorite sections, Sky Islands are fewer than expected and the rest is basically the same map as BOTW, which was great, but doesn't bring back the magic of exploring a region for the first time. For me right now it's handily Resident Evil 4, and the only things I'm really thinking have a chance of me loving them as much this year are Spider-Man and Super Mario RPG. All rights reserved. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is right around the corner, and we're absolutely itching to get our hands on it and roam the land of Hyrule once again. save. Much of this is due to the graphics and overworld being similar for both titles. Less talk about TOTK and I've seen a few huge popular streamers drop it because it's really more or less the same as the previous but with few extra goodies. That's a bit base lol. No, I'm not saying this because I'm a Xbox fanboy but rather because Starfield is a new ip. I think it stands between Tears of the Kingdom, Baldur's Gate III and Starfield (if it turns out great). This is a simple step, but many players feel it is time-consuming, particularly during a battle, and makes little sense. I was salivating the other day at the idea of "stasis the enemy, drop and quickly fuse a near-broken weapon with a Topaz or other lightning-generating item, then go to town". The four Divine Beasts were the dungeons in the last game, and they shared similar designs. I think my main disappointments are that 1) a lot of the game is a retread of what came before it, and 2) a lot of the things I was hoping would be improved upon in a sequel didn't really come to fruition, or only did half-heartedly. This time, the dungeons are huge and each carry their own regional look and feel, just like traditional The Legend of Zelda games. Does anybody else feel like there's no continuity between ToTK and BoTW Tears Of The Kingdom. Thanks! TOTK Meaning. When Nintendo said that hands are this games theme and people joked about the Wallmaster enemy returning, I thought about dungeons. Bethesda games have always had their fair share of bugs and glitches, and its likely that Starfield will have a few of its own. None of them hold a candle to the mighty dungeons of Zelda games past. Which upcoming title do you think could most challenge your current standings? Larian clearly took some inspiration and cues from BOTW/TOTK when it comes to the players ability to creatively puzzle solve in various manners as well as crafting a realm where real world logic can be applied because almost nothing is constrictive to what you think you can achieve. The XY axis rotation of objects can be tricky, and attaching items in the correct spots with the Ultrahand can end up a bit frustrating for some. Anyway, this is fantastic! Not that it really matters. They must not have played it yet, because I realized that wasn't the case very early on in the game. The new abilities that the game has added provide new ways to encourage creativity and allow players to solve puzzles in any number of ways, or even just play with crafting cool things rather than questing. For the most part, it sounds as though these issues are few-and-far-between, but for a game that is exclusive to only one platform, it is disappointing to see problems like this. Nintendo Lifes resident horror fanatic, when hes not knee-deep in Resident Evil and Silent Hill lore, Ollie likes to dive into a good horror book while nursing a lovely cup of tea. That's a little sad to hear many people didn't even finish the game, but GOTY is more or less just a popularity contest, for better or for worse. I love TotK and I've never played Elden Ring but critics were absolutely smitten with Elden Ring. Made it hard to grow attached. What anticipation. I still haven't played Baldur's Gate. FFXVI is the pick for me. In any case, nothing is topping TotK for my personal one (of the games mentioned, I'm only playing TotK and Starfield b/c lack of a PS5 and I'm not into isometric RPG's) so I guess it's immaterial since I watch TGA for the meltdowns and the announcements. Maybe best family game, but it's not the right 'type' of game to win GOTY. Next-Gen is truly finally here.Zelda has definitely tough competition, as these games have very similar levels of hype all around the userbases. Zelda: TOTK Isn't A Shoo-In For GOTY 2023, And That's A Good Thing Im actually a little cautious on Dungeons. Same (Backbone at at least) map had me worried, but having proper dungeons is awesome. The return of stables, now with the excitement and anticipation of pony points and associated rewards! Reviews of Tears of the Kingdom have been consistently listing the latest Zelda title as a "must-play" and it's already been named a strong contender for Game of the Year for 2023. That Baldurs Gate III is some good stuff. The shrines remain as relevant/frequent as they were in BotW. But yes, this year turned out a lot better than expected. It is a rare case of a full-fledged sequel with the same Link and era, but also including the same Hyrule. My biggest gripe with the near perfect BOTW. But it even being eligible for GOTY 2023 and that it's Metacritic is based on it's 2023 release is stupid, insane, backwards, counterintuitive, and sets an incredibly negative president we will make the gaming experience so much worse for everyone for years to come. As for PERSONAL games of the year, and I'm always cheating with these, I'd have to go with TotK, Demon's Souls and Returnal for me as games I played this year (take a wild guess who bought himself a ps5 this year). Were not done yet, though. Well, its too early to say, of course, but I do think TotK sort of has it with some competition with Baldurs Gate 3 right now. Goodbye autobuild meat skewers. This leaves TOTK at risk of feeling too much like BOTW instead of giving it the sense of adventure and discovery that comes with a completely new or changed map. Naruzeldamaster 6 months ago #1 In BOTW: Completing a shrine puzzle: Fine, I get a bonus item that can be combined into a permanent stat buff. We cant judge Starfield until it rolls out. Sorry. Some discoveries are cool, but often time dwindles down to "kill the thing". You're being daft. With the success and popularity of Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom has a lot to live up to as its sequel. ****ing, thank you! I think it will be Starfield, Baldur's Gate 3 or Tears of the Kingdom. share. Marvel's Spider-Man 2 doesn't need to use the multiverse to tell a great story. If it were a Fallout or Elder Scrolls game, I could pour on all the hype I want and likely still not be disappointed, but Bethesda has historically created several other one-off franchises (Rage and Brink come to mind) that just weren't anywhere near as interesting as the two I mentioned and have already been forgotten. TotK is my GOTY with Future Redeemed behind it, except TGA hates Xenoblade and gave the best soundtrack to GoW last year instead of 3. This is astonishingly good news. Like its predecessor, Breath of the Wild, this open-world exploration adventure gives players the freedom to play as they would like with many different varieties of things to do. I have not played another game on my switch for three months. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom | ScreenRant BOTW was one of the first games on the Switch and was also released for the Wii U, but now with more modern consoles featuring greatly improved graphics, there has been some negative feedback regarding Tears of the Kingdom looking the same as Breath of the Wild. I still find it weird that they took this long to officially confirm dungeons have returned. Zelda has a lot going for it gameplay and design. Zelda TotK is not enough as a standalone game, it really is- despite its size- just BotW prime plus rewards program. . That is great news and only makes me more excited to play it! Elden Ring is great, but it's not "another level." Published Oct 22, 2022 Tears of the Kingdom will probably have a lot of past Zelda monsters, but there's at least one it should probably keep away from the enemy roster. Well, sort of. And every other publisher is going to follow suit. And looking at just the stuff y'all mentioned in the article, I think it definitely has it. There really isn't any way around that, the wiki even calls it "a 2020 roleplaying game". Honestly, I am most interested in seeing what kind of light BG3 casts on Starfield. Okay, that is a thing I did not want to know, despite the spoiler warning. Starfield maybe has a chance, but we need to see if it lives up to the hype. 09 Jun 2023 03:51:55 For a second I thought that the fan-favorite feature that is returning is the Koroks, lol. I love this game! The only game that I've bought this that actually released this year is Resident Evil 4 Remake, and I personally think it's quite a bit overrated. It's also possible that not every area will be open-world, as that could be more difficult when Link is limited to islands, but that might not be a bad change. The most time Id ever previously put into any game (other than Animal Crossing at 220 hours) was around the one hundred hour mark. Granted, theres absolutely no denying the games exceptional quality, and if you think it will wind up being your personal Game of the Year, then please dont let us or anyone else stand in the way! Baldur's gate is fantastic. It is starting to sound like that the game is much bigger than the BotW and not a 'DLC' as many people have been complaining about it. As a result, they didn't land well with every Zelda fan. I don't think Resident Evil 4, Dead Space, or Metroid Prime have a chance. Played all of them, but been less impressed by each one. However, totk probably ruined most other open world adventure games from now on as well due to its awesomeness:). TotK is weird. Holy crap it's in the sky AND the chasm?! It made Dark Souls accessible and inspired player agency to the nth degree - a common trend for GOATs. I'm basically going in blind, all I know is it takes place in space. For Switch owners, the big event of the year was undoubtedly The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which launched finally back in May. TOTK Meaning. Like, proper dungeons. BOTW took quite a lot inspiration from other company's games but it always felt incomplete to me. Search all of Reddit . If it were any other year particularly in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic then Tears of the Kingdom will likely be the shoo-in for Game of the Year. Baldurs Gate 3 will probably end up being my personal GOTY, but I dont see it winning over Zelda or Starfield in a popularity contest. I wonder how many there will be, @JohnnyMind 31 years of life and not once have I had a game arrive early xDThere is an Amazon plant like 10 mins away from me as well, how'd y'all do it xDNo added salt here I swear. WHY WOULDN'T YOU. This concept is already covered superbly in the Into The Spider-Verse series, and No Way Home also showed its take on it. Playthroughs, but apparently that game is so good that companies feel the need to point out that they shouldn't be held to the same standards, which when one of those companies is Activision Blizzard, then yes, they absolutely should. Playing Elden Ring for an entire year - I know it is my very subjective opinion -, but I find it a very bold statement that the game should be thankful for TOTK delay. 1 Could Where To Buy Pokmon Scarlet And Violet On Switch - Best Best Nintendo Switch Graphics - The Most Beautiful Switch Nintendo Switch Online Missions And Rewards: August 2023 Cult Of The Lamb Officially Announces 'Don't Starve' Cros Best Retro Throwback Nintendo Switch Games - Modern Games Join 1,413,929 people following Nintendo Life: 2023 Hookshot Media, partner of ReedPop. The Legend of Zelda; Tears Of The . Can't see starfish doing it, looks a bit bland and cookie cutter Bethesda but in more empty space.. happy to be wrong. It doesnt mean anything. They used early access to get the best of both worlds. Some will make a jump to other platforms in the future I assume. @Chaotic_Neutral randomly and with no warning in a completely unrelated TotK article. From playtime it is BG3 for me as I have 61hrs into it and I am just getting to the middle of the first act of 3? MW3 shouldnt even be brought up in an article like this. They could charge people money for a game that they were not confident in, and they could deflect any criticism by saying "well, it's early access". tkk - Wiktionary @Grumblevolcano I forgot how weird the Game Awards were before Elden Ring. Personally, my top three games of year are TotK, Prime Remastered and Pikmin 4. All rights reserved. Competition is a great thing for the industry, and if something were to creep out of the shadows and snatch the trophy away from Zelda, then surely this would only spur Nintendo on to make something even greater in the future (if such a thing is even possible). The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom absolutely lives up to - Vox Baldur's Gate III is easily the toughest competition Tears of the Kingdom has at the moment. One thing I really enjoyed about BOTW was the physics engine and how it allowed for Shrine puzzles to be solved in multiple ways. But imho Zelda is the obvious winner and deserves it more than any game because you know its gonna inspire developers and artists for years to come and its gonna make some other devs think "what are we even doing here? As for awards, TotK will likely take home a few, but if it doesn't, I understand why. Dungeons don't fare much better, with bland settings, "unlock five things" cores, and overly easy bosses. My personal GotY?At first I thought it would be TotK, but now I'm leaning more at Pikmin 4. They were certainly a challenge to develop! With Psychonauts 2 as the runner up. Theres no such thing. They're cool and I like them too, but does it really make or break a game? Glad it's making ya'll so happy though. And man Im so happy to hear about it! These sweet dogs are programmed to look adorable and roll around in front of Link begging to be petted, while Link merely stands and watches. I dont think Spider-Man 2 has a chance of being GotY at all, but Im also totally biased, in that I feel like Spider-Man 1 and MM were both 7/10 games and generally am not into superheroes. Also, since BG3 has been in early access for 3 years, everything outside of Act 1 is DLC. Suggest to this list. So no, shouldn't be GotY. Best deals, cheapest prices and Collector's Edition! We have never before told a game it can win GOTY and have a Metacritic score based on the developer decided to change a label on the Steam page 3 years after they started selling it. Outstanding news, can't wait for tomorrow!! At the same time why does it even matter? Tears of the Kingdom is indeed a sequel to Breath of the Wild, so it's not a standalone game it picks up shortly after Breath of the Wild in a changed (and expanded) Hyrule. So there you go: one of the most requested features for Tears of the Kingdom has been confirmed. My GOTY is Fire Emblem Engage, (obviously, but I absolutely adore the game.) Either way, Friday can't come fast enough! But I think Eldin Ring is also incredibly niche and it won (and I think would have an easier time winning over TotK than anything this year), For me Baldurs Gate 3 >>>>>>> Zelda TOTK, MY PERSONAL GOTY is Street Fighter 6 as well. Models seem to have been directly put back in with no visible change (the stables), you can hear the exact music from BotW return, a lot of the SFX seem to be the same, and even the UI has received only the faintest of brush strokes (they seem to have made colours 'flatter' and more 'modern'. I think Baldur's Gate also has a good chance, and I wouldn't rule out Final Fantasy. Kind of surprised how good the graphics in the game actually are (I can't really say how well it plays as I've only played less than 1 hour of it, but so far I think it seems quite alright). But honestly, Baldurs Gate 3 takes it for me personally now. Words cannot express how disappointed I was. Robbie and Purah seem so distant from what they used to act like, there is no mention of the sheikhs at all (at least to the point i've played), and every major location from the first game has been turned into a chasm. I think among the stuff I played Zelda still has it. All the Game Awards GotY winners except Dragon Age Inquisition released in the 1st half of the year so I think TotK is likely to win as that was the huge game in the 1st half of this year. Tears of the Kingdom Is the Best Nintendo Switch Game Ever Made Inverse Score: 10/10 by Hayes Madsen May 11, 2023 Nintendo When a Korok asked me to bring him to his friend, there was clearly a. Lousy year butreally? Other publisher are already doing this, but most of the time it ends in abandonware, and the people who paid for the early access are just screwed. Hosted by 44 Bytes. Meh. Unfortunately, some of the same disappointing feedback that was given for BOTW has also found its way into TOTK. Anyway, this is just me letting off steam off a long stressful day at work. Oh yes i can breathe.. this game will keep me busy for a long long time lol. Really happy to hear this news. Im hoping Baldurs Gate 3 will eventually get ported to the next Nintendo console unless its a Wii U size flop :/. Anyone else feeling like TOTK might be a dud / not for them? Otherwise would the games where most money is spent on marketing win? @Grumblevolcano Silksong isnt coming out this year. Which is what you want from a GOTY. There haven't been any left field wackies this year like It Takes Two was last year so I think that the front runners are relatively clear, and tbf all deserving of the GOTY (assuming Starfield is decent) so i'll be happy to see it whoever wins. This was only the first in a long line of working really hard to reach some hidden treasure just for it to be some variant of a past Link's hat or whatnot, all things I had in BotW that are very, VERY boring. TOTK completes the experience, with major innovations of its own, all based around gameplay. @garzuit imagine if you had to collect 1000 korok seeds this time around. Even the early access slice of act 1 was incredibly highly reviewed, Definitely do not care about awards shows. For those that haven't played it, I could see not understanding how it could win over TotK but believe when I tell you TotK has nothing on BG3. However, given the ridiculous cadence of outstanding games launching in 2023, Tears of the Kingdom is facing some tough competition from games on other platforms. Even if it's YEARS after they started charging people for the game? Of course I havent/wont play many of the others, including totk, so my opinion doesnt go very far. For the "Feels like DLC" Crowd: What does TotK need to show - Reddit We all suspected it after seeing that temple rising from the sand in the last trailer but still, nice to have official confirmation!Tears of the Kingdom really seems like Breath of the Wild with much improved and expanded mechanics typical of it while also combined with some of the more traditional Zelda elements and that's all I personally wanted to see, can't wait to play it the day after tomorrow (or even tomorrow if I'm lucky and my physical copy gets delivered earlier)!
